Annual Greens Show and Open House
In 1975 the Guilderland Garden Club and Guilderland Historical Society began decorating the Mynderse-Frederick House on Route 146 in Guilderland Center for a holiday greens show and open house. Planning for what has become an annual free community event begins in late summer. The decorations, wreaths and most of the refreshments are made by Club members and each year the show has a different theme. We thank everyone who has attended over the years!
This year's theme is O Christmas Tree! The show is scheduled for Friday, December 2, 4-8pm; and Saturday and Sunday, December 3-4, 1-5pm. A portion of this year's proceeds from the sale of wreaths, ornaments and arrangements will be donated to the Thacher Park Center-Capital Campaign.
The theme for 2015 was "Santa's Workshop." Over 200 people attended the show. The house was full of beautiful holiday music, and Sinterklaus entertained the children. Proceeds were donated to Fisher House Serenity Garden, St. Lucy's Food Pantry, and the Farnsworth Middle School Organic Garden Walkway.
The theme for 2014 was "Memories of Christmas Past: Celebrating 50 Years of the Guilderland Garden Club." Photos of past shows provided the inspiration for the decorations. The Pine Bush Discovery Center and Hilltown Seniors received a portion of the proceeds from the sale of wreaths and ornaments.

Carol Samsonoff, pictured above right, created this replica of the original wedding dress worn by Apolonia Frederick. Carol sewed the entire dress by hand, without a pattern, using very delicate silk and lace. The dress is modeled by Donna Crego. Donna had worn the original dress for the show for many years, but it has greatly deteriorated and could no longer be worn.
